Nine Shropshire food specialists are tasting success today after being named in a new guide to
the best of eating in and out in Britain.
Eating British, put together by the Guild of Fine Food Retailers, features 600 establishments
across the country from restaurants and delicatessens to food halls and farm shops. Among the leading lights are
the White House Restaurant near Church Stretton, Appleyards and Renaissance in Shrewsbury.
Other outlets include places in Cleobury Mortimer, Wem & Ludlow.
The White House was described as cosy while Appleyards was recommended for its own homecured
bacon.
Renaissance’s historic building won praise in the guide together with its freshly prepared
menu which includes Appleyards bacon.

movement amongst customers towards regional produce,” said Bob Farrand, director of the Guild of Fine Food
Retailers.
“Eating British is an invaluable guide for all real food enthusiasts as well as tourists
looking to experience the delights of British regional food and drink.”
“We are delighted that Shropshire is featured within the guide.”
